ABOUT THIS COURSE


This unit of competency is designed for unqualified skilled workers who require the skid steer loader operations short course as part of their employment and aimed at those currently working or wishing to work in the civil construction or mining sectors.

The age entry is open and individuals will be required to be able to have the physical ability needed to operate heavy machinery.

It can also be completed by those already working in the sector who need to formalise their skills and knowledge.

The course is taught in English and students will be required to have a basic level of English and will be required to undertake a Level 3 Literacy Language and Numeracy Indicator before commencement. Students will be provided with additional support as required.

Training Location and Course Delivery

Core Industry Training has a dedicated site at Groundworks Nerang which has the required work area, equipment and attachments for students to undertake a realistic practical demonstration of the required skills.

Equipment on site at Nerang are a skid steer with attachments.

Training and assessment will be delivered in a classroom and simulated workplace environment at Groundworks, 24 Stevens Street Nerang.

Students will be provided with hardcopy learning and assessment materials that they complete during the training.

Students will undertake assessment in a simulated environment at the Groundworks 24 Stevens Street, Nerang. This simulated site is setup to replicate a construction site and is equipped with industry relevant equipment.

The course is delivered over a two day period (usually Friday evenings and a full day Saturday) at different times during the year. Contact us to find out when the next class is.

Who Should Do this Course?

Funding Options

Students wishing to do this course can be provided with subsidised funding through Construction Skills Queensland.

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent industry funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices and career seekers in the building and construction industry. Core Industry Training has been a proud recipients of Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding for a number of years. We may receive up to $500 per unit from CSQ as the training provider.

Please note that you must agree that you can be contacted by CSQ for the purposes of surveys, review and marketing purposes if you are eligible for a funded position.

Eligibility

As a funded student, there are certain requirements that must be meet:

  • You must be an Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident/New Zealand Citizen, or a refugee and humanitarian visa holder
  • Permanently reside in Queensland or be permanently employed in Queensland
  • Be an eligible or existing worker (eligible worker in defined by the  Building and Construction (Portable Long Services Leave) Act 1991.
  • Be an unemployed eligible worker meaning you have been unemployed for a period of no more than 4 years and your previous employment was in the Building/Construction Industry as defined in the “eligible worker” act as above.
  • Our funding is location specific, you must either work or live in the following regions:
    • Darling Downs – Toowoomba
    • Gold Coast
    • Greater Brisbane
    • Sunshine Coast

Documentation We will Ask You to Provide

Evidence to confirm eligibility can be provided from the following list:

  • Birth Certificate/ Passport / Medicare Green (must be green) or relevant Visa.
  • Queensland Residency: Queensland Drivers Licence (Front and Back) or formal documentation which shows full name and current residential address (must be current and dated)

Evidence will also need to be provided to demonstrate that an individual meets the eligible, existing worker requirements. This can be done through the provision of:

  • A letter from an employer or a current payslip.
  • A letter needs to be on letterhead and detail job title, length of service and main duties in that role.
  • For self- employed individuals, an invoice which shows details of recent work undertaken for a client
  • A Statutory Declaration (for those currently unemployed they will need to provide a statutory declaration detailing previous positions in the building and construction industry).
Course Fees

Under CSQ Funding the cost of this unit is $100.00

The Fee for Service cost is $500 per unit.

Outcomes

The following unit of competency is included in the RIIMPO318F Conduct civil construction skid steer loader operations.  In order to be awarded competency of this unit, you must competently complete all of the requirements for the unit of study.

Students will receive a Statement of Attainment and a wallet ticket for each successfully completed unit of competency.

Study Pathways

Students may choose to complete further standalone units of competency in other types of machinery and equipment, or they may choose to complete full qualifications within the Civil Construction industry or other relevant industry sectors.

This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisted by someone who has completed RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant or equivalent.
